KEY FURNACE MAINTENANCE TIPS
With winter approaching, it is important to prepare one of the most important components in your home – your Furnace. To maximize heat output and efficiency, follow these annual maintenance tips for your Furnace.
THINK EARLY MAINTENANCE
It always seems the Furnace breaks down on the coldest nights. Take a proactive approach and start your Furnace while it is still mild or warm out. By doing this, you may be able to sense if there is an issue. Call in during late summer/ early fall to schedule your Annual Furnace Maintenance.
INSPECT THERMOSTAT BATTERIES
Make sure your thermostat batteries are working. If you do not know how to access the batteries within your thermostat, find your thermostat manual or Google the model number. Give us a call with any issues.
INSPECT YOUR FILTERS
Depending on which type of filter you have, you may need to replace it every month or every six months. Dirty filters decrease Furnace efficiency and may even cause your Furnace to shut down. Make sure to replace your filters appropriately. Check your filter monthly to determine the frequency of the filter change that will be required for your furnace.
CLEAR THE DRAINAGE TUBE
Hi-Efficiency (90% +)
Natural Gas and Propane Furnaces produce a large amount of water while heating. While some of this is exhausted as steam, the rest drains through from the power exhaust manifold to a drip pan. If the condensate trap becomes clogged, water could fill the manifold triggering the pressure switch to shut down the system. Try pouring a cup of vinegar through the condensate drain trap’s tube to loosen up any build up.
DUST AND VACUUM
Keep the area around the Furnace clean from debris. Vacuum around the unit and inside the cabinet for any loose dust or debris. Keep cat litter boxes away from the Furnace – they can create a lot of dust that gets sucked into the Furnace.
